Homemade Crisp Attempt

I thought I would make some Crisps today! :D

I've always wanted to make some crisps as I thought it was quite simple and thought I could do it..
I'm right, its simple, but there IS a knack to it.. and its very frustrating.

I sliced up a potatoe as thinly as I could (could have used a potatoe peeler but ours made it into strips and not circles like I wanted), put some vegetable oil in a saucepan and heated it up ready. When it was really hot and had little bubbles on the bottom I put in some of the slices in to make batch number one.


I'm not sure how long you are ment to leave them in there and what heat its ment to be. (I think thats where I was going wrong as mine were thick for crisps despite me thinking the slices were thin, and didn't seem to crisp like I'd hoped. .. and they went a little brown :( )

Anyway, once I thought they were ready I scooped them out with a slotted metal spoon. (It was actually a flat slotted burger tosser thing - yes, you may note I am short on utensils).

I put them into a bowl with tissue in so it would soak up the oil and shook a little bit of salt on them. I think they look like potatoes rather than crisps. oops!

Conclusion...

They are OK.

I'd like to make them again... but better! .. maybe with some flavouring..mmmm...
